FAQ

Iron and steel repair, answered.

Can rusted wrought iron fences be repaired?
Surface rust can be sanded, treated with a converter and re-coated. Once rust has eaten through the metal, that section usually needs welding in a new piece or full picket replacement. Central Florida humidity is hard on iron, so early treatment matters.
Do you offer on-site welding for iron fences?
Yes. Most iron repairs happen on site: welding in new pickets, fixing broken spears, re-attaching decorative elements, welding a bent top rail back into shape. We bring portable welding equipment.
Can historic-district iron fences be matched exactly?
Yes for standard historic profiles. Highly ornamental antique iron may need custom fabrication which takes longer. We coordinate with the City of Winter Park and Orlando historic preservation offices when required.
How do you match iron fence paint colours?
Standard black, hammered black and bronze are stock. Custom colours can be matched with commercial exterior enamels. We prime bare metal properly to prevent rust bleed-through the top coat.
How long do iron fences last in Orlando?
With regular maintenance, wrought iron fences last 40 to 60 years in Central Florida. The determining factors are rust management, keeping the paint or powder-coat intact, and keeping the base of posts dry.
Can I convert my iron fence to aluminum?
You can, and many Orlando homeowners do because aluminum does not rust. Historic district and older HOAs sometimes require iron for aesthetic consistency though. We can advise both options.
How do you fix a bent iron fence top rail?
Minor bends can be heated and straightened on site. Sharper bends usually mean cutting out the damaged section and welding in a new piece, then blending the finish.
